The Concrete Stairs

These stairs are located on the southwest corner of the concrete railroad bridge. They lead from the sidewalk along Lincoln Avenue to the railroad grade at the southern end of the railroad bridge. There is no platform of any kind at the top nor any evidence that there ever was one. As the steps end, there is just the gravel of the track bed and then the rails of the tracks.

Dear "phanders,"

I happened to come across your blog as I was researching the very same staircase on Lincoln Avenue. In the 1950-60's I lived on the very block next to the tracks on Burrell St. When you explored the sight you said you saw no evidence of anything at the top of the stairs, but when I was a kid there used to be a block long sidewalk that ran along the west side of the tracks ending at some foundation ruins of (as I found out) used to be the Stowell train stop. I was just there in April 2016 and saw the the gravel track bed had been widened and the sidewalk either covered over or removed. However if you walk down the trains south, you can still see evidence of the foundation ruins amid the brush and trees. If you go down the hill at that point you can clearly see the outer side wall of those ruins. I'm still trying to get a picture of the buildings that were once there. One of my "bucket list" things to do. Since I was I kid, I always want to know. Bill Lemanski
